1. Application and Admission
How do I apply for the Chinese Language Program?
Please prepare the required application documents and submit them to the Chinese Language Education Center (CLEC) by email or through the designated application method.
After your documents are reviewed and approved, CLEC will issue an admission letter.
What documents are required for application?
Applicants are generally required to submit:
- Application form from CLEC
- Online Registration - To fill out the required sections.
- Photocopy of your Passport
- Highest Diploma / Academic Transcript
- Passport-sized Photo
- Financial Statement (at least USD 3,300 under your name)
Additional documents may be required depending on your visa type or individual situation.
How long does it take to receive the admission letter?
After all required documents are received and approved, the admission letter is usually issued within 1–2 weeks.
Can I request an updated admission letter?
Yes. If you need to change your study term or study period, please contact CLEC and provide the reason for the change.
CLEC will review your request and assist with issuing an updated admission letter if applicable.
2. Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES)
I have received the HES scholarship. What should I do next?
Congratulations on receiving the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship.
Please inform CLEC and continue preparing your visa application and travel arrangements. Registration, dormitory, and pre-arrival information will be provided separately before the semester begins.
Can HES students pay tuition after receiving the first scholarship allowance?
HES students may generally pay tuition after receiving their first scholarship allowance.
However, registration fee, insurance fee, dormitory fee, textbook fee, and personal living expenses should be prepared separately.
Can tuition or dormitory fees be automatically deducted from my scholarship?
No. Automatic deduction from the scholarship allowance is not available.
Students are responsible for completing payments according to university regulations.
What if I was not awarded the HES scholarship?
If you were not awarded the HES scholarship, you may still choose to study as a self-funded student.
If you decide not to enroll, please inform CLEC as soon as possible.
3. Tuition and Fees
How much is the tuition fee?
The tuition fee may vary depending on the study period. Please refer to the latest tuition and fee information announced by CLEC.
For a regular 3-month term, students should also prepare for registration fee, insurance fee, textbook fee, and living expenses.
Can I pay by installments?
Monthly installment payment is not available.
What other fees should I prepare?
In addition to tuition, students should prepare for:
- Registration fee
- Student accident insurance
- Textbooks and learning materials
- Dormitory fee, if applicable
- Personal living expenses
4. Dormitory
Can I apply for on-campus dormitory accommodation?
Yes. Admitted students may apply for on-campus dormitory accommodation when the dormitory application information is announced.
On-campus dormitory placement is subject to availability. Room type, roommate, and dormitory building cannot be guaranteed.
Students who need dormitory accommodation must complete the Dormitory Application Form before the announced deadline.
What information should I provide for dormitory arrangement?
Students should provide accurate personal and arrival information before the announced deadline, including:
- Passport name
- Passport number
- Application term
- Expected arrival date in Taiwan
- Expected dormitory check-in date and time
- Flight information, if available
This information is required for dormitory arrangement and check-in preparation.
Is dormitory accommodation guaranteed?
No. Dormitory placement is subject to availability.
Room type, roommate, and dormitory building are arranged by the university and cannot be guaranteed.
Does the dormitory provide bedding?
Bedding is generally not provided. Students should prepare or purchase bedding after arrival.
Can I cook in the dormitory?
Cooking in dormitory rooms is not permitted. Students must follow university dormitory regulations.
What is the dormitory cancellation and payment policy?
Students who apply for on-campus dormitory accommodation should carefully review the following payment and cancellation policy:

If my visa is delayed and I cannot come to Taiwan, do I need to pay the dormitory fee?
If you have not checked in to the dormitory and give up the dormitory bed due to visa issues, no dormitory fee will be charged.
Please inform CLEC as soon as possible if your visa is delayed or if you decide not to use the dormitory bed.
If I arrive late, can I pay a reduced dormitory fee?
No. Late check-in does not reduce the dormitory fee.
A new student who checks in later than the official dormitory check-in date will still be charged the full-term dormitory fee. The full term is usually three months.
If I move out after checking in, can I get a refund?
If you give up the dormitory bed within one week after check-in, one week of dormitory fee will be charged.
If you give up the dormitory bed more than one week after check-in, the full-term dormitory fee will be charged. The full term is usually three months.
Can I continue staying in the dormitory if I have unpaid dormitory fees?
No. Students with unpaid dormitory fees from a previous term cannot continue staying in the dormitory or apply for dormitory renewal, according to dormitory regulations.
How will dormitory fees be charged for winter and summer terms?
Starting from the 2026 winter, dormitory fees for CLEC students who stay in Winter, and Summer term will be announced based on the Good Shepherd Hall dormitory rate.
Please refer to the latest dormitory fee announcement for the exact amount.
5. Visa and ARC
Which visa should I apply for?
Visa requirements may vary depending on your nationality, study period, and personal situation.
Please confirm the latest visa requirements directly with the Taiwan Representative Office (TECO) where you will submit your visa application.
Does CLEC guarantee visa approval?
No. Visa decisions are made by TECO and Taiwan immigration authorities.
CLEC may provide admission-related documents when applicable, but cannot guarantee visa approval.
Do I need a health examination?
Health examination requirements depend on your visa type and length of stay.
Resident Visa applicants are usually required to complete a Taiwan CDC health examination according to TECO requirements.
6. Registration and Arrival
Where do I register after arriving at Providence University?
Registration is usually completed at the CLEC office:
R401, St. Peter Hall, Providence University.
Can I register online?
Registration should generally be completed in person after arrival in Taiwan.
Can I arrive late?
Late arrival may be accepted in some cases, such as visa delay or flight issues.
Please inform CLEC in advance if you expect to arrive late.
Does CLEC provide airport pickup?
CLEC does not generally provide airport pickup service. Students should arrange transportation to Providence University by themselves.
7. Courses and Placement
How many hours do students study each week?
Full-time Mandarin students usually study 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
What are the class times?
Classes are usually arranged in the morning or afternoon.
- Morning: 09:10–12:00
- Afternoon: 13:10–16:00
Is there a placement test?
Yes. CLEC may arrange a placement test or short interview to assess your Chinese level and arrange your class accordingly.
Are evening or weekend classes available?
Evening and weekend classes are not generally available for the regular full-time Mandarin program.
8. Insurance and Health
Does the university provide insurance?
Students are generally covered by student accident insurance during their study period.
Please note that student accident insurance mainly covers accidental injuries and is not comprehensive medical insurance.
When can I join Taiwan National Health Insurance?
Students who hold an ARC and reside in Taiwan for more than six months are required to join Taiwan National Health Insurance according to relevant regulations.
Before becoming eligible for NHI, students are advised to prepare private medical insurance.
