Taichung   Providence University Chinese Language Education Center Providence University CLEC The Chinese Language Education Center (CLEC) at Providence University began its establishment in the winter of 1994 under the guidance of former university president Dr. Chia-Tong Lee. In late 1996, the Center was officially recognized by Taiwan's Ministry of Education as one of the ten university-affiliated Chinese language education institutions legally established at the time. Located in Shalu District in western Taichung, CLEC has long been committed to promoting Chinese language education, Taiwanese culture, and international exchange.

Our Mission

CLEC is committed to promoting Chinese language education, enhancing the quality of instruction, and fostering international exchange. We provide professional, diverse, and practical Chinese language programs that integrate traditional culture, Indigenous cultures, the regional culture of central Taiwan, and contemporary Taiwanese local culture. Through language learning and cultural engagement, students develop practical Chinese communication skills while gaining a deeper understanding of Taiwanese society and culture.

Teaching Features

-  Small classes of 6 to 15 students, with instruction tailored to each student's proficiency level, learning needs, and cultural background.

-  A comprehensive Chinese proficiency and assessment system, with courses ranging from beginner to advanced levels and regular assessments and class placement.

-  Strong emphasis on practical Chinese communication through real-life learning scenarios, Chinese Corner activities, and interaction with local Taiwanese students.

-  Cultural courses featuring traditional culture, Indigenous cultures, central Taiwan's regional culture, and Taiwanese local culture, together with field trips and hands-on cultural experiences.

-  Integration of Taichung's cultural, historical, and local resources to help students deepen their understanding of Taiwan through language learning.

Our Faculty

Our instructors have professional backgrounds in Chinese language teaching and extensive teaching experience. Courses are designed according to students' Chinese proficiency levels, learning needs, and cultural backgrounds, enabling our faculty to provide appropriate and diverse instruction in a professional, welcoming, and supportive learning environment.

Our Students

CLEC welcomes students from around the world, including Chinese language learners, exchange students, international students, members of religious communities, and other international learners interested in Chinese language and Taiwanese culture. Our multicultural learning environment gives students the opportunity to study Chinese while interacting and building connections with learners from diverse countries and cultural backgrounds.
